7 baby toys that our 3-month-old loves

Finding toys that actually keep a young baby engaged can feel like a guessing game. Here are some toys that have been a hit with our 3-month-old.

Wooden play arch

Instead of buying an all-in-one baby play gym, we opted for a foam play mat and a separate wooden play arch that we can easily move around and store. It’s been fantastic for encouraging early reaching and grasping, plus we often hang other toys from it to keep things interesting. We have this woodland themed Cuggl one.

Crinkle/activity books

These are ideal for introducing your baby to different textures, colours, and sounds. We have this set of two, and keep one permanently attached to the pram for on-the-go entertainment.

Oball

The original Oball was the very first toy our baby learned to grasp on his own. It has an easy-to-grab design and he is obsessed with it! I’ve also seen people use them to stuff colourful sensory fabrics inside for added play factor.

Wrist and sock rattles

Perfect for teaching babies cause-and-effect. We often put these on our baby during floor time, you can see he is beginning to realise his own movements make the noise. He also loves to stare at the brightly coloured bugs that suddenly appeared on his feet! We have this set.

Crinkle/activity fish

This fish toy has quickly become one of our baby’s absolute favourites. He loves reaching out to feel the textured, crinkly scales, and the built-in mirror on one of the sides is great for grabbing his attention during tummy time. We often hang this one from his wooden play arch.

Loopy Loops Ball

This was given to our baby by his Great Grannie. It’s soft and has ribbon loops, a mirror, and a rattle. Thanks to some longer ribbon, we are able to hang it from his play arch or car seat. As it’s quite small, it’s usually the toy we pack in the bag when we go out for the day. This is the one we have.

High contrast flash cards

We have two sets of flash cards, a 0+ month newborn set and 3+ months colour set. The newborn cards use black and white patterns with pops of red, and the 3+ month cards use vibrant, high-contrast colours. They are wonderful for visual tracking practice and keeping our baby engaged during tummy time. We managed to find a set second-hand on Vinted! These are the cards we have.
